Understanding Your NDIS Plan with Confidence
Receiving your NDIS plan is an important step in accessing the supports you need for everyday life. Your plan helps explain your goals, your funded supports, how your funding is managed and how you can use supports to build independence and confidence.
According to the official NDIS website, NDIS plans are built by NDIA planners with NDIS participants and include funding to buy the NDIS supports needed for everyday life and to work towards personal goals. Source: NDIS – What is an NDIS plan
At Vidoma Care and Disability Services, we help participants understand their support needs and access reliable, consistent disability support that aligns with their NDIS goals.
What Is an NDIS Plan?
An NDIS plan is a document created with you by the NDIA. It outlines your situation, your goals, the supports included in your plan, your funding amount and how your funding will be managed.
Your plan is designed to help you access reasonable and necessary supports related to your disability. These supports may work alongside the informal supports, community services and mainstream services you already use.
Your NDIS plan may include supports such as:
- Daily personal activities
- Travel and transport support
- Community participation
- Employment support
- Life skills development
- Household tasks
- Group and centre-based activities
- Support during life transitions
What Is Your NDIS Plan For?
Your NDIS plan is there to help you buy supports that assist with everyday life and help you work towards your goals. The supports included in your plan are based on the information and evidence you provide, NDIS funding rules, and what is considered reasonable and necessary for your disability support needs.
The NDIS explains that each plan is a package of supports that work together with other supports in your life, such as family, friends, community services, health services and education or employment providers.
This means your NDIS plan is not just about funding. It is about helping you access the right support so you can participate more confidently at home, in the community and in daily life.
Understanding Your Goals
Your goals are an important part of your NDIS plan. They help the NDIA understand what matters to you and what you want to work towards.
Your goals may include:
- Becoming more independent at home
- Building daily living skills
- Joining community or social activities
- Finding or maintaining employment
- Using public transport more confidently
- Improving health and wellbeing
- Building relationships and social confidence
- Managing life changes or transitions
Goals can also help you recognise your strengths, stay motivated and measure your progress over time.
Understanding Your Funding
Your NDIS plan includes your total funding amount. This is the funding available for you to purchase NDIS supports.
Your plan may include different support budgets, such as:
- Core Supports
- Capacity Building Supports
- Capital Supports
- Recurring Supports
You may not have funding in every support budget. What is included depends on your situation, disability support needs and goals.
Some supports may be flexible, meaning you can use the funding in a way that best suits your needs. Other supports may be stated, meaning the funding can only be used for the specific support described in your plan.

How Your Plan Is Managed
Your NDIS plan will explain how your funding is managed. This may include:
- Self-managed funding
- Plan-managed funding
- NDIA-managed funding
- A combination of management types
How your plan is managed can affect how you pay providers and which providers you can choose. If you are unsure, you can speak with your support coordinator, plan manager, local area coordinator or the NDIS directly.
Choosing the Right Support Provider
Choosing the right provider can make a big difference to your NDIS experience. A good provider should listen to your needs, respect your choices and provide support that is safe, consistent and person-centred.
When choosing a provider, consider asking:
- Do they understand my NDIS goals?
- Can they provide the supports I need?
- Are they reliable and consistent?
- Do they communicate clearly?
- Will they respect my choices, privacy and routine?
- Can they support me at home and in the community?
At Vidoma Care, our focus is on reliability, consistency and access. We work with participants to provide practical support that helps them feel more confident in everyday life.
